KARACHI (HRNW): The Sindh Assembly has completed its second parliamentary year, yet significant gaps in legislative transparency and administrative accountability remain. Official records reveal that approximately 500 questions submitted by lawmakers were never answered by the relevant departments during this period. Throughout the second year, the assembly remained in session for only 56 days, while 25 days were consumed by holidays and 19 days passed without any scheduled meetings. Notably, the Chief Minister did not personally provide answers to queries regarding the departments under his direct supervision during any of the sessions.
The assembly also faced procedural hurdles, as elections for four key standing committees could not be held. While elections were conducted for some positions, four seats remain vacant, hindering the oversight capabilities of the provincial legislature. On the legislative front, the Sindh Assembly managed to pass a total of 48 government bills across both parliamentary years. Despite this legislative output, critics point to the low number of active session days and the vast backlog of unanswered questions as evidence of a pressing need for more consistent parliamentary engagement to address the province’s governing challenges.
