Washington (HRNW)– A tragic shooting incident just steps from the White House shook the US capital, resulting in the death of two National Guard personnel. Police responded immediately and arrested a suspect at the scene.
Following the incident, the area was heavily secured, the White House was temporarily closed, and surrounding streets, including I Street, were sealed off with citizens advised to stay away.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Lute confirmed that President Donald Trump received a full briefing and is monitoring the situation closely. US Homeland Security stated that multiple agencies are working together to investigate the incident.

President Trump condemned the attack, calling the assailant an “animal” and warning that anyone attacking the National Guard will face severe consequences. Flights at Ronald Reagan National Airport were temporarily suspended but have since resumed normal operations.
