Karachi (HRNW)– Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), in coordination with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi Police, conducted a joint operation based on intelligence reports, leading to the arrest of seven suspects involved in extortion activities linked to the Jamil Changa and Samad Kathiawari groups in Central and South City districts of Karachi.
The arrested individuals include Parvez alias Powa, Asghar Ali, Shakeel Ahmed alias Comrade, Faizan alias Limbo, Mohammad Zubair alias Chotu, who were apprehended in a wounded condition, along with Mohammad Sabra and Mohammad Umar alias Afshani Baloch. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

According to officials, the suspects operated under the directives of criminal leaders Jamil Changa, Osama Jamil, and Abdul Samad Kathiawari, targeting factory owners, shopkeepers, builders, ongoing construction projects, and restaurants to collect extortion money. The group was known to issue threats and open fire in cases where extortion demands were not met.
Investigations revealed that in October 2025, the gang opened fire on Jeddah Barbecue fast food shop in Nazimabad after the owner refused to pay extortion. CCTV footage from the incident clearly shows the suspects in action.
Recovered extortion money was reportedly illegally transferred abroad to leaders Jamil Changa, Samad Kathiawari, and Osama Jamil. Officials stated that the suspects are habitual criminals with multiple FIRs registered against them for extortion and attempted murder at different police stations across Karachi. Investigations are ongoing.
The Rangers have appealed to the public to assist in preventing crime by reporting information about such criminal elements immediately to the nearest Rangers checkpoint, Rangers Helpline 1101, or Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number 0347-9001111. Informants’ identities will be kept strictly confidential.
