Pope Leo IV Condemns Islamophobia and Anti-Refugee Policies in Europe and US

Rome (HRNW) Pope Leo IV has strongly criticized the rise of anti-Islam sentiments, racism, and political campaigns against refugees in Europe and the United States.

Speaking to journalists on his flight back to Rome from visits to Turkey and Lebanon, the Pope said that Islamophobia stems from politics of fear and intimidation, driven by those promoting nationalism and discrimination against refugees.

The 70-year-old Pope emphasized that creating fear of Islam or other religions is inhumane, immoral, and contrary to Christian teachings. He also criticized US President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies as unjust.

Pope Leo IV stressed that the church should open borders, break down class and ethnic barriers, and promote humanity and compassion towards all people.
