London (HRNW)- The embassy of the State of Palestine was officially inaugurated in London, marking a historic milestone in British-Palestinian relations. The embassy is located in the Hammersmith area of West London, previously serving as the Palestinian mission.
The opening ceremony was attended by foreign diplomats, British government representative Alistair Harrison, and Palestinian supporters. Palestinian Ambassador Hussam Zamlut described the embassy as a part of Palestine on British soil and a symbol of peace, steadfastness, dignity, and the long struggle of the Palestinian people for freedom and justice.
The ambassador called the occasion a historic moment and a turning point, emphasizing that the embassy represents continuity of Palestinian identity and hope for Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and refugee camps.
Previously, the Palestinian office operated as a mission with limited powers, but following the UK government’s official recognition of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state on September 20, it now functions fully as an embassy. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed the decision as opening a new chapter in relations between London and Palestine.
