MQM-Pakistan Holds Prayer Ceremony on the Anniversary of Dhaka Fall and APS Tragedy

Karachi (HRNW)– The Muhajir Qaumi Movement (Pakistan) organized a prayer ceremony to commemorate the victims of the 1971 Dhaka Fall and the APS school attack. The event was addressed by Afaq Ahmed, Chairman of MQM-P, who paid tribute to the victims and highlighted lessons for future generations.

In his address, Afaq Ahmed stated that the pain of the Dhaka Fall remains fresh in the hearts of every member of his community, recalling the day when the majority was politically marginalized and the country was forcibly divided. He referred to the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report, noting that power rightfully belonged to the Awami League, but was transferred under coercion to the Pakistan People’s Party, which held fewer seats, through an orchestrated slogan of “Udhar Hum, Udhar Tum.”

Afaq Ahmed emphasized that although those responsible for the Dhaka Fall are no longer alive, the persecuted citizens of East Pakistan continue to pay the price for their love of Pakistan. Citing Red Cross records, he noted that even today, East Pakistan’s displaced citizens in 44 Red Cross camps fly the national flag and wait for repatriation, yet their pleas remain unheard by the government and centers of power.

Regarding the APS tragedy, Afaq Ahmed expressed deep sorrow for the children who were martyred, extending heartfelt condolences to their parents. He prayed for patience and resilience for the bereaved families and said the loss is felt by the entire Muhajir community.

Afaq Ahmed also highlighted the historical misuse of power, stating, “Power should be exercised against enemies, not against one’s own people. In 1971, power was used to turn fellow citizens into adversaries—a pattern that unfortunately continues today. Suppressing public demands through force endangers the nation, and this practice must end.” He urged that instead of wielding power to label citizens as traitors, the government should share authority and allow inclusive participation.

Further, Afaq Ahmed reaffirmed that the displaced citizens of East Pakistan are our brothers, stating that the MQM-P will cover all costs associated with their repatriation. He emphasized that even if the party must seek donations to achieve this goal, they are committed to bringing their brothers back home, provided the government issues them the necessary travel documents.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the souls of the APS martyrs and the victims of East Pakistan, as participants expressed solidarity and remembrance.
