PESHAWAR (HRNW): A series of coordinated militant attacks targeted law enforcement across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, leaving at least eight people injured in Peshawar alone. According to police reports, the first incident occurred at the Badhber Police Station, where a grenade attack resulted in the injury of one police officer. Shortly after, a second grenade was hurled at the Sara Khwara police checkpost within the jurisdiction of Matani Police Station. This second attack was particularly devastating as a local jirga (community council) was in progress at the post; the blast injured seven individuals, including a policeman.
Security forces stationed at the Sara Khwara post immediately returned fire, forcing the assailants to retreat under the cover of the ensuing chaos. All eight injured victims from the Peshawar incidents were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. Meanwhile, similar reports of aggression emerged from the districts of Bannu and Hangu, where militants opened fire on various police checkposts. However, alert personnel at these locations successfully repelled the assaults with effective retaliatory fire, causing the terrorists to flee the scene. Search operations have been launched in the affected areas to track down the perpetrators.
