Maulana Fazlur Rehman Expresses Deep Concern Over Pak-Afghan Escalation

PESHAWAR (HRNW): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed serious concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following a major military escalation on February 27, 2026. In a statement issued by the JUI-F Media Cell, the veteran leader acknowledged that while Pakistan’s security grievances are legitimate, the sovereignty of Afghanistan and its internal challenges must also be respected to prevent a regional catastrophe.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman warned that emotionally driven responses from both sides are only adding to the complexity of the conflict. He emphasized that unilateral military adventures are not a sustainable solution and will likely deepen the crisis rather than resolve it. Instead, he urged both nations to adopt a reliable security framework based on mutual interests and internationally recognized diplomatic norms.

The JUI-F chief made an urgent appeal for an immediate ceasefire, calling on both governments to exercise patience, tolerance, and responsibility. He stressed that only proactive diplomatic engagement can lead to a lasting resolution. Maulana Fazlur Rehman also expressed hope that neighboring countries and international well-wishers seeking regional peace would intervene through peaceful diplomatic channels to help de-escalate the “open war” situation currently unfolding along the Durand Line.
