KARACHI (HRNW): In a high-stakes joint operation, a federal intelligence agency and the District City Police have made a significant breakthrough against the remnants of the Lyari gang war. Following an armed encounter late Wednesday night, security forces arrested two wounded suspects identified as key shooters and extortionists belonging to the notorious Wasiullah Lakho group. The operation, conducted in the Garden area, resulted in the apprehension of Ahmed alias Jojo and Ahmed Ali alias Malangi, both of whom have been shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
SSP City Arif Aziz revealed that forensic analysis of the suspects’ mobile phones uncovered direct evidence of their coordination with Wasiullah Lakho, including voice notes, chat logs, and reconnaissance videos of ongoing construction projects. The investigation disclosed that the suspects were actively plotting the kidnapping of a property dealer’s son and had been tasked with assassinating a construction dealer in Lyari for refusing to pay extortion money. The group had also begun collecting contact details of estate agents and catering centers in the Malir area to expand their extortion network.
According to police officials, Ahmed alias Jojo acted as a scout, recording videos of targets to send to Lakho, while his accomplice, Shahzad Arbab, served as a shooter responsible for firing at offices to spread terror. One of the arrested individuals had a prior criminal record and was recently released from jail after a previous arrest by the Clifton police. In recognition of the successful mission, DIG South Asad Raza and SSP City Arif Aziz have announced commendation certificates and rewards for the Garden police team and the intelligence officers involved.
