KARACHI (HRNW): To stabilize the prices of essential commodities during the holy month of Ramadan, the Commissioner of Karachi has initiated a series of rigorous administrative measures. Following official directives, specialized “Ramadan Counters” have been established across 71 major supermarkets throughout the city to ensure the availability of items at regulated rates.
Five-Day Enforcement Report
According to the latest administrative report covering the first five days of Ramadan:

Daily Action: On the fifth day alone, authorities took action against 240 profiteers, imposing fines totaling Rs. 2.174 million.

Inspections: Inspections were carried out at 1,116 locations, with essential goods being sold at official government rates at 126 of these sites.

Cumulative Statistics: Over the five-day period, a total of 1,180 profiteers were penalized, with aggregate fines exceeding Rs. 10.6 million.

Enforcement Measures: During this window, 4,221 locations were inspected for price compliance. Furthermore, 533 locations facilitated the sale of goods at government rates via public auctions.

Strict Penalties: To deter overcharging, 10 shops were sealed and 7 profiteers were taken into custody.
