15 Killed in Illegal Building Collapse at Soldier Bazaar, Builder Arrested

Karachi (HRNW) — In a tragic incident at Soldier Bazaar, an illegally constructed 40-gaz building collapsed, resulting in 15 deaths and 15 injuries. Authorities have arrested the builder, Mohammad Irshad, and registered a case against him at Soldier Bazaar Police Station.

According to police reports, the building, located in Chowri Maidan Gul Rana Gali, was constructed without authorization between 2007–2008, using substandard materials including TR girders and nylon, and an improper gas line installation. On the day of the incident, a gas leak triggered a fire when a resident, Zeeb-un-Nisa, lit a stove at around 3:30 a.m. for suhoor, causing a powerful explosion that destroyed the upper three floors.

Police stated that the builder’s negligence, illegal construction practices, and faulty gas installation constitute criminal conduct, and further investigations are ongoing. The Bomb Disposal Unit also examined the site to rule out additional hazards.
