Student Leader Usman Hadi Succumbs to Injuries After Attack, Protests Erupt in Bangladesh

Dhaka (HRNW)- Usman Hadi, a prominent young political leader in Bangladesh who was critically injured in a murderous attack, has passed away.

Usman Hadi was a key leader of the student movement that led to the overthrow of the Hasina government in July and also served as the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, a political platform formed by student leaders.

He was seriously injured by unknown assailants in Dhaka last Friday and was immediately shifted to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to Singapore on Saturday for advanced treatment, where he died during treatment today.

Usman Hadi had expressed his intention to contest the upcoming Bangladesh elections as an independent candidate.

A day earlier, Singapore’s Foreign Minister visited Usman Hadi at the hospital and informed Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus via telephone that his condition was extremely critical.

According to Bangladeshi authorities, investigations into the attack are ongoing and so far 14 people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, protesters staged demonstrations in front of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka yesterday, condemning the assassination attempt and demanding justice for Usman Hadi.
