Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) – This year, over 50,000 cases of dog bites have been reported in just three of the city’s major hospitals. According to ARY News, Jinnah Hospital recorded 18,000 cases, Civil Hospital 16,000 cases, and Indus Hospital Korangi 17,000 cases. Figures from other hospitals may vary.
The report also states that 22 people across the province lost their lives to rabies during the same period.
Syndh government spokesperson Syeda Tahseen Abidi said that more than 30,000 stray dogs have been vaccinated across different districts of Karachi. She urged citizens to note that rabies vaccines are available at hospitals and emergency centers, and anyone bitten by a dog can contact helpline 1093. Treatment for affected individuals will be provided free of charge by the government.
