Lahore, Pakistan (HRNW) – Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Aaliya Neelum, has warned that anyone attempting to seize land in violation of court orders must be prepared to face serious consequences.
During a hearing on petitions filed under the Property Ownership Act, the Chief Justice addressed cases where individuals obtained land possession unlawfully. In one instance, a citizen who had taken possession despite legal restrictions appeared before the court. The court, through the DRC Committee, ordered the immediate return of the land to its rightful owners.
Chief Justice Neelum questioned the lawyer representing the citizen, asking how they could justify wrongdoing. The lawyer acknowledged that committees formed under the DCs had exceeded their authority. The Chief Justice responded firmly, stating, “Return the possession first; then we can discuss further.”
Justice Neelum further remarked on the need to initiate action against committee members who overstepped their authority, adding that such situations could have been avoided had the Patwari system worked efficiently. She emphasized that bypassing the legal system will inevitably lead to such issues.
