Jakarta (HRNW)– Recent natural disasters have wreaked havoc across Asia, with more than 1,100 people killed within a week due to cyclones, heavy rains, floods, and landslides. Millions have been affected, and thousands have been forced from their homes.

According to reports, 604 people have died in Indonesia, 366 in Sri Lanka, 176 in Thailand, and 3 in Malaysia. A state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka, where President Anuradha Kumara said the destruction is even worse than the 2004 tsunami.
Save the Children reports that thousands of children in Indonesia and Thailand are unable to attend school due to flood-related damage and landslides. In southern Thailand, around 76,000 children are out of school, while more than 1,000 schools in Indonesia have been destroyed or turned into shelters.
The organization warns the situation may worsen as heavy rains continue.
Meanwhile, in India’s Tamil Nadu state, Chennai has been heavily affected by Cyclone Dattu, resulting in the suspension of flight operations due to severe rainfall.
