Lahore, Pakistan (HRNW) – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has issued a detailed written verdict in two cases related to the May 9 Gulberg incident, involving arson and the burning of vehicles during the violent protests that followed the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to the verdict, the court acquitted 23 accused due to lack of evidence, while seven others, including senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, were convicted and sentenced.
The court sentenced PTI senior leader Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed to a total of 33 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 600,000. The verdict clarified that the sentences were awarded under separate legal provisions for multiple offenses.
Additionally, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Ejaz Chaudhry were each sentenced to 10 years in prison. The court observed that all three were present in a planning meeting and, according to the prosecution, incited the public and conspired to instigate arson and violence on May 9.
