Directorate of Human Rights Participates in Provincial Meeting on Community Empowerment in Mirpurkhas

Karachi (HRNW)– The Directorate of Human Rights participated in the Provincial Meeting organized by the Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP) to showcase progress and opportunities for marginalized communities in Mirpurkhas. The event highlighted achievements in women’s empowerment, protection systems, climate resilience, and community-led development.

Agha Fakhr Hussain, Director, Human Rights Department, attended the session and joined the inauguration alongside Ms. Rubina Brohi, Chairperson, Sindh Commission on the Status of Women (SCSW), and other distinguished guests, including:
* Mr. Noor Muhammad Bajeer, CEO, CSSP
* Mr. Muhammad Bux Kapri, CSSP
* Mr. Agha Suhail, Secretary, Social Welfare Department
* Ms. Aaliya Taherkheli, Programme Coordinator, NCA

During the event, Agha Fakhr Hussain was also presented with a shield in recognition of the Directorate’s contributions and support toward advancing human rights, protection mechanisms, and inclusive community development in Sindh.

In his remarks, Agha Fakhr Hussain appreciated CSSP for creating a joint platform for government departments, civil society, and community leaders. He emphasized that true progress is only possible when marginalized groups—women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable communities—are protected, empowered, and given equal opportunities.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination across government institutions to ensure dignity, justice, and equal access to services. He reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to:
* Promoting awareness of fundamental rights
* Enhancing institutional accountability
* Supporting protection services
* Encouraging partnerships for peace, justice, and community wellbeing

Agha Fakhr Hussain also acknowledged the efforts of CSSP, local partners, faith actors, and community groups, praising their role in promoting social harmony, preventing harmful practices, and strengthening community resilience.

The event featured panel discussions, success stories, theatre performances, and documentaries showcasing the district’s progress in gender equality, livelihood development, and climate-adaptive practices. Participants stressed the need for continuous collaboration to expand livelihood opportunities, improve protection systems, and ensure meaningful inclusion of women and marginalized groups in decision-making.

The Provincial Meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building a more inclusive, safe, and resilient Mirpurkhas.
