Karachi (HRNW)- The price of green spices increased on Eid-ul-Adha, while the prices of tomatoes, ginger, garlic and lemons started skyrocketing.
In the city, the price of tomatoes, which were sold for Rs60 per kg till last week, has crossed Rs120, while lemons are being sold for Rs500 per kg. Ginger and garlic are being sold for Rs550 to Rs600 per kg, while all types of chillies that were previously sold for Rs60 are now being sold for Rs100 per kg.
The price of coriander and mint is also being charged at almost double the usual rates, while raw papaya used for marinating meat is being sold for Rs150 to Rs200 per kg.
Salad ingredients including cucumber and salad leaves have also become expensive. Cucumber is being sold for Rs150 per kg, while salad leaves are being sold for up to Rs100 per kg.
Vegetable vendors say that there has been a significant increase in transport and delivery costs, while the imbalance between supply and demand has caused green spices and vegetables to become more expensive even at the wholesale market level.
