Washington (HRNW)- The US military killed five people in two drug smuggling operations in the Eastern Pacific. The operation was conducted in international waters on Thursday, according to the US Southern Command.
The Southern Command said in a statement that the people killed were involved in drug smuggling and terrorist activities. Three people were killed in the attack on the first boat, while two people were killed in the operation on the second boat. No US military personnel were injured in the operation.
According to the US Department of Defense, Joint Task Force ‘Southern Spear’ conducted these air and naval operations on December 18 at the direction of Secretary of Defense Pat Hegseth.
The statement said that according to intelligence, these boats were passing through known drug smuggling routes in the Eastern Pacific and were under the control of designated terrorist organizations. The operation is part of Operation ‘Southern Spear’, an ongoing operation to dismantle internationally organized crime and drug trafficking networks.
