Over 25 Defunct Aircraft at Jinnah International Airport Pose Security and Environmental Risks

Karachi (HRNW) More than 25 defunct aircraft parked at the junkyard of Jinnah International Airport have deteriorated into a safety and environmental hazard, officials report. The abandoned planes have become nesting sites for birds, and the presence of rodents has also been noted, raising concerns over airport security and operational safety.

Sources indicate that the majority of these aircraft—20 in total—belong to Shaheen Air, which have remained grounded for an extended period due to legal complications. In addition, seven defunct PIA planes are also present at the site, and authorities are considering options for their disposal.

The Airport Authority has announced plans to remove these old aircraft and completely clear the junkyard, aiming to mitigate environmental hazards and security threats while improving the operational environment of the airport.
