London (HRNW)- The British government announced on Thursday that it will train teachers to tackle misogyny in classrooms as part of a new national strategy aimed at halving violence against women and girls over the next decade.
Jess Phillips, the minister for protection and violence against women and girls, said the strategy would “use the full power of the state to take the biggest steps in the history of the UK to stop violence against women and girls.” She is expected to present further details of the plan in the British Parliament in the coming days.
The £20 million initiative comes amid alarming new figures showing that more than 40 percent of young men in Britain hold positive views of controversial social media figures linked to the so-called “manosphere,” including Andrew Tate, according to a government statement.
The government says the education-focused approach is a key part of addressing harmful attitudes at an early stage and preventing gender-based violence in the long term.
