President Trump’s proposal for limited-term visas for foreign students resurfaces

Washington (HRNW) – US President Donald Trump has proposed issuing limited-term visas for foreign students. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has submitted this proposal for review to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

This proposal was put forward by Donald Trump during his first presidential term in 2020, and has now resurfaced as he embarks on a tougher crackdown on immigration during his second term.

According to this proposal, visas issued by the United States to foreign students will have a limited duration, and after that period expires, students will no longer be able to stay in the United States.

Under current rules, international students on F-1 visas and foreign students and media representatives on J-1 cultural exchange visas are allowed to remain in the United States until the completion of their education and training sessions.

If Donald Trump’s new proposal is approved, foreign students will be issued limited-term visas, and after the limited visa period expires, students will have to apply to the relevant authorities to extend the visa period in order to stay in the United States longer.
