MQM threatens to protest against blackmail and looting in the name of Ajrak number plates

Karachi (HRNW) – The right-wing members of the provincial assembly of the MQM-Pakistan have strongly condemned the looting of the public in the name of number plates in Karachi and said that the Sindh government has adopted a new method of looting the pockets of citizens by imposing heavy fines on them through the police and traffic police.

On one hand, citizens are facing months of delay in issuing number plates by the Excise Department, while the staff is demanding bribes. Citizens are being given dates 4 to 5 months later, and yet their work is not done without bribes.

While on the other hand, the police and traffic police are imposing fines of thousands of rupees on motorcycle and vehicle owners on the basis of not having a specific number plate, which is sheer cruelty and injustice. MQM leaders have demanded that the Sindh government provide immediate relief to the citizens.

The process of issuing number plates should be made transparent and prompt, and citizens should be given time until this issue is resolved. The statement further said that the Sindh government should stop this looting, otherwise the MQM will take the path of peaceful protest along with the people.
