Karachi (HRNW)- Iqra University’s Sports Department recently held a grand ceremony to honor the outstanding achievements of its student-athletes. The event brought together esteemed dignitaries, faculty members, and students, and highlighted the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering sports excellence.
The chief guest of the ceremony was Munawar Ali Mahesar, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs.Other notable guests included Ahmed Ali Rajput, Secretary of Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), Asad Ishaque, Additional Secretary, Youth and Sports Affairs Sindh; national cricketers Usman Khan and Saifullah Khan Bangash; Kashmir Premier League player Samiullah Afridi; and other respected individuals including Ismail Shah, Fareed Ali, Hajra Nawab, Kashif Ahmed Farooqui (Media Coordinator), Abdul Hameed, Muhammad Taqi, and Muhammad Saeed. In his welcome speech, Dr. Sheraz ul Hasan Mohani, Director of Sports at Iqra University, warmly welcomed the guests and shared the university’s notable progress in sports. He highlighted that Iqra University is one of Pakistan’s top private educational institutions, with prominent campuses located in Karachi, Islamabad, and Hyderabad. Iqra University’s athletes have delivered remarkable performances by securing a total of 76 medals, including 22 medals at the Intervarsity and National levels. This reflects the university’s active participation in local, regional, and national sports competitions, as well as its commitment to organizing various sporting events on campus. Vice Chancellor and President of Iqra University, Dr.Nassar Ikram, was honored during the event for his visionary leadership in supporting student- athletes. Under his guidance, the university has implemented cash awards for medal winners and improved its scholarship policy by offering 100% financial support to deserving athletes. As part of this support system, Iqra University distributed cash prizes to medal-winning athletes of the HEC Intervarsity Games 2024–25, with Rs. 35,000 awarded for Gold medals, Rs. 25,000 for Silver medals, and Rs. 20,000 for Bronze medals. A Culture of Sports and Holistic Growth. The event also included a captivating martial arts demonstration by Iqra University students, showcasing their strength, discipline, and skill in front of the cheering audience. In closing, the university administration urged students to actively participate in sports and embrace the opportunities available through the university’s robust athletic programs. The ceremony stood as a strong testament to Iqra University’s mission of encouraging holistic development and cultivating a lasting culture of sportsmanship and athletic excellence across all its campuses.
