Monsoon Rains Wreak Havoc in Murree, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad; Landslides, Flooding, and Tragic Accidents Reported

Islamabad (HRNW)- A fresh series of monsoon rains has raised alarm bells in the mountainous areas of Upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy rains paralysed normal life in Murree, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, while incidents like landslides, falling trees and overflowing rain drains occurred at many places.

The rains that have been going on since last night have severely affected Murree city and its surroundings. Landslides occurred especially at the junction of Bostal Road and Expressway, as a result of which several vehicles were trapped while three people were injured. Rescue agencies took immediate action and shifted 11 stranded people to a safe place. Two houses were affected by the landslide in Namb Jhanda Gali village, but there was no loss of life.

Trees were uprooted due to strong winds, which blocked several roads, while power supply in Bhurban and adjoining areas has been suspended for 12 hours. The district administration has appealed to the citizens to avoid unnecessary travel.

Intermittent rains are also continuing in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Citizens are facing severe problems due to waterlogging in low-lying areas. A tragic incident took place in a private housing society in Rawalpindi where retired Colonel Ishaq Qazi and his daughter were swept away in a storm drain along with their car. According to eyewitnesses, the car got stuck in the water and they kept shouting for help, but due to the strong current, both of them were swept away.

Rescue teams have reached the affected area and the search process is underway. Problems like collapse of houses, cattle being swept away and disruption of traffic flow have also been reported in various rural and urban areas of Islamabad. Traffic jams occurred at places like Adiala Circle and Biscuit Factory Chowk.

Due to the high water level in Rawal Dam, spillways have been opened to avoid any major damage. The district administration of Chakwal has initiated emergency measures after the rains were predicted. Citizens are being warned through announcements in mosques to avoid possible damage.
