Hamas Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal, Demands Permanent Truce, Full Israeli Withdrawal, and Unhindered Aid to Gaza

Doha (HRNW)- Hamas has presented its categorical position on the ceasefire plan in Gaza presented by the US President to the mediators of the negotiations, Qatar and Egypt.

According to the Al Jazeera report, Hamas has presented three clear and basic demands on the US ceasefire proposal.

The first demand is for a permanent and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, and not a temporary or limited ceasefire as stated in the US proposal.

Hamas has made a second demand, in contrast to the US proposal, for a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all areas of Gaza and the West Bank.

Hamas’s third demand for a ceasefire is the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including basic necessities, medicine, medical equipment and construction machinery.

It should be noted that the same two points (military withdrawal and provision of aid) were included in the initial stage of the 42-day ceasefire agreement reached in January, but Israel did not comply with these two conditions of the agreement.

A Hamas spokesman expressed hope that Israel would respond positively to these demands in order to pave the way for a viable and lasting peace agreement.

On the other hand, according to CNN, the US-backed and Israeli-approved Trump ceasefire plan proposed that Hamas return 10 Israeli hostages and the remains of 18 dead, in exchange for Israel releasing 125 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,111 other Gazans.

Under the US ceasefire plan, talks on a permanent ceasefire would begin on the first day of the 60-day ceasefire, while humanitarian aid would be allowed to enter Gaza immediately.

This aid would be distributed through agreed channels such as the United Nations and the Red Crescent. However, the draft does not include a guarantee of a permanent ceasefire, which is Hamas’s main demand.

The US ceasefire proposal also does not provide any clear assurances about the continuity of the ceasefire.

Instead, it said President Trump was committed to ensuring that sincere negotiations continue until a final agreement is reached.

Hamas initially expressed reservations about the terms of the agreement. It said the US framework for a ceasefire did not meet any of the basic demands of the people of Gaza.

However, Hamas indicated that it would continue the talks despite these reservations.
