Trump Administration Revokes 80,000 US Visas Over Crimes, Social Media Posts, and Political Views

Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump’s administration has revoked nearly 80,000 non-immigrant visas since taking office, a senior US State Department official said.

According to a senior US State Department official, visas were revoked for crimes such as driving under the influence, theft and assault, as well as social media posts and political views.

According to Reuters, the measures are part of the Trump administration’s tougher immigration policy, under which many visa holders have also been deported.

According to the official, 16,000 visas were revoked in drunken driving cases, 12,000 on assault and 8,000 on theft charges, which account for about half of the total revocations.

According to the report, the US State Department confirmed in August that more than 6,000 student visas were revoked for violating rules and overstaying, including in some cases allegations of supporting terrorism.

It was further reported that in recent months, several visas have also been revoked for political statements on social media, particularly comments about the murder of Charlie Kirk.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in May this year that he had revoked hundreds, if not thousands, of visas because the individuals concerned were involved in activities that were considered contrary to US foreign policy.

The report claims that students and green card holders who support the Palestinians or criticize Israel are also being targeted under the Trump administration, who are considered “unfriendly” to the US or “pro-Hamas”.
