Sugar Shortage Hits Islamabad Markets as Prices Surge; Government Summons Sugar Mills Amid Crisis Fears

Islamabad (HRNW)- Citizens are not getting sugar in the markets, due to which citizens are forced to go around the markets in search of sugar. Shopkeepers in Islamabad say that the official rate of sugar is Rs 172 per kg, sugar is being obtained from the market for Rs 178 to 188, they are fed up with the arrests of the price magistrate and will no longer keep sugar.

People are facing problems due to the lack of sugar in the markets of the federal capital and the people say that if a country that is independent in sugar production does not get sugar, then what can they say about other things?

Sugar dealers say that sugar mills have stopped the supply of sugar by signing an agreement with the government at an ex-mill price of Rs 165, the sugar stock is starting to run out, however, sugar mills have denied this allegation.

In addition, after sugar disappeared from the market and started an investigation against sugar exporters and dealers, the government has called a meeting of representatives of the Sugar Mills Association today to avert a new sugar crisis. The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer, will review how to implement the agreement to provide cheap sugar to the public.

Under the agreement between the government and sugar mills, the ex-mill price will increase from 165 to 167 from August 1, while the government has started putting the names of sugar dealers who exported sugar in the ECL last December.
