Republican Candidate Valentina Gomez Sparks Outrage by Burning Holy Quran During Campaign

Texas (HRNW)- A Republican congressional candidate in the state of Texas set fire to the Holy Quran during an election campaign, which has sparked outrage and condemnation on social media. The candidate, Valentina Gomez, released a video in which she said that her daughters will be raped and her sons beheaded if Islam is not eradicated forever. After that, she set fire to the Holy Quran. During the video, a controversial song by American rapper Kanye West was also played in the background. Gomez added in her statement that America is a Christian country, if terrorist Muslims want to go to 57 Muslim countries. There is only one true God and he is the God of Israel. She wrote in her post: “I will eradicate Islam in Texas, God help me.” The video received more than 3.8 million views in a day and thousands of people reacted to it. Many users described the move as “hate speech and incitement to violence.” Renowned podcaster Brian Allen said, “This is not politics, this is provocation. When the mosques start burning, remember that this is the same match and the Texas GOP handed them a lighter.”

Valentina Gomez was born in Colombia and moved to the United States as a child. She has also unsuccessfully run for Secretary of State in Missouri in the past. She is currently running for the 2026 election from Texas’s 31st Congressional District. Gomez is a former Olympic swimmer and has repeatedly been the subject of controversy for her provocative statements. Last year, she also used strong language against transgender athletes in women’s sports.
