Karachi (HRNW) — The Karachi Grand Alliance held a significant and historic jirga, attended by representatives from political, social, business, and civil society organizations. The gathering focused on longstanding urban issues, performance of civic institutions, and the inequitable distribution of resources.
The highlight of the event was the participation of BGC Group CEO Syed Imtiaz-ul-Haq Bukhari, whose bold, clear, and well-reasoned address received strong appreciation from attendees. Bukhari emphasized that no major department in Karachi has local representation, calling it the city’s biggest administrative tragedy.

He stated, “When Karachi’s major institutions like KMC, KDA, and HDC do not include local residents, decisions naturally fail to address the city’s real needs.” He stressed that Karachi, being the economic backbone of Pakistan, deserves rightful authority and representation for its own citizens.
Other speakers, including Chairman Aslam Khan, expressed concerns over unfair resource allocation, centralized toll tax collection, road damage caused by port traffic, and delays in establishing the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC).
Participants fully endorsed Bukhari’s stance, calling it a courageous and truthful voice for Karachi’s rights. The jirga concluded with a commitment to continue this series as part of long-term efforts to shape Karachi’s future. Chairman Aslam Khan thanked all guests for their participation.
