Dhaka (HRNW)– 10 kilograms of gold, estimated to be worth around $130,000, have been seized from frozen bank lockers of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid.
According to reports, the interim government of Bangladesh has launched a rigorous investigation into crimes against humanity, corruption, and misuse of office during her tenure. Since Hasina fled to India, authorities have examined her properties, bank accounts, and financial assets.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) froze her Pobali Bank locker number 128 on September 10, along with her bank accounts, joint accounts, and deposit accounts. Later, on September 17, two more lockers at Agrani Bank were seized, where the 10 kg of gold, allegedly gifts received during her tenure that were not deposited in the state treasury, were discovered.

The seizure is part of an intensified campaign by the interim government to recover alleged corruption and ill-gotten assets following the end of Hasina’s authoritarian rule, which concluded after the nationwide student movement of 2024, in which hundreds were reportedly killed.\
