Karachi (HRNW)- The distinguished alumni association of the University of Karachi, Unicareans International, along with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission Professor Dr. Tariq Rafi, deans of colleges, President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President Unicareans International Professor Ijaz Ahmed Farooqi, Director General National Institute of Public Administration Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, President Teachers Association Ghufran Alam, members of the syndicate, city elders, teachers and a large number of administrative staff warmly welcomed the 75th batch of freshers at the University of Karachi’s Silver Jubilee Gate on Thursday.
The University Day ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Hafiz-e-Quran, followed by a procession from the main gate to the administrative building. Later, a grand ceremony was held in the parking ground of the administrative building, where prominent speakers highlighted the history, academic excellence and social role of the University of Karachi.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman Sindh HEC Professor Dr. Tariq Rafi said that the University of Karachi is one of the largest universities in Pakistan and its graduates have earned recognition both nationally and internationally. He noted the increasing participation of women in higher education, especially in medical fields, but expressed concern that many do not enter professional practice, calling it a national loss.
President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah emphasized the sacrifices of parents in enabling higher education and urged students to live up to their parents’ expectations. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi stressed the importance of quality education, tolerance, dialogue and national identity, saying that the University of Karachi not only awards degrees but also provides moral, intellectual and social training.
Professor Ijaz Ahmed Farooqi highlighted the university’s outstanding research contributions, stating that the number of research papers published by the University of Karachi surpasses those of many other institutions combined, and said that the university plays a key role in shaping complete and responsible individuals.
