UN Launches Urgent Investigation into Iran Repression After 5,000 Deaths

GENEVA (HRNW)— The United Nations Human Rights Council has approved a high-priority resolution to investigate the escalating violence in Iran. With 25 member states voting in favor, the mandate for independent investigators has been extended for two years to document reports of mass unlawful killings. Activist networks, including HRANA, estimate that at least 5,137 individuals have been killed since the unrest intensified. UN High Commissioner Volker Türk warned of “chilling” reports involving security forces targeting victims in hospitals and the widespread detention of human rights lawyers.
