UN Experts Condemn Removal of Legal Aid for Migrant Children

Geneva, Switzerland (HRNW)- United Nations human rights experts have sharply criticized a policy by the U.S. Department of the Interior that strips legal aid for unaccompanied migrant children. The experts argue this move violates international human rights standards related to fair treatment, due process, and protections for vulnerable populations — notably children at risk of trafficking and abuse. Following legal challenges, some funding was temporarily restored, but experts insist long-term policy changes are needed to uphold global child-rights commitments.
