Turkey Thousands March to Support Palestinians in Gaza on New Year’s Day

Istanbul (HRNW)- On the first day of the new year, thousands of people took to the streets of Istanbul to express solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and to demand an end to the Israeli war. Citizens gathered at major mosques, including Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, Sultan Ahmed, Fatih, Suleymaniye, and Eminönü New Mosque, waving Turkish and Palestinian flags and calling for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict.

The march, titled “We Do Not Remain Silent, We Do Not Forget Palestine,” was organized by the Humanitarian Alliance and the National Will Platform, with participation from over 400 civil society organizations, government officials, and high-ranking state figures. Despite the bitter cold, attendees marched from the mosques to Galata Bridge, where prayers were offered for Palestinians, and an art installation called Roots highlighted attacks on culture and the arts in Gaza. World-renowned artists and musicians also performed, and a large banner of Hanzala, a symbol of the Palestinian struggle, was displayed.
