Washington (HRNW) – US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is closely monitoring the ongoing protests in Iran and is ready to help Iranian protesters if necessary.
In a statement released on social media, President Trump said that Iran is moving towards freedom, a situation that has never been seen before. He said that the Iranian people have been victims of government oppression for many years and now a strong reaction is emerging from within the country.
President Trump had earlier warned that if protesters were killed in Iran, the United States could intervene; however, he clarified that such intervention would not involve sending American troops into Iran.
According to the US President, protesters have gained control in some Iranian cities and the government’s grip on power appears to be weakening.
