Washington (HRNW)– US President Donald Trump provided details of the Special Forces operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores.
In a telephone interview with Fox News, Trump stated that both were taken aboard the USS Iwo Jima and transported to New York. He explained that Maduro and his wife were airlifted by helicopter after their arrest, and the flight was completed safely.
President Trump said he had contacted Maduro a week prior, asking him to face a US trial following the arrest. He alleged that Maduro and his close associates had killed several Americans, justifying their capture.
Trump added that he watched the arrest live from a room in Maracaibo, describing it as if watching a live television broadcast. He also noted that the operation was highly complicated, with US soldiers having to break through steel doors to reach secure locations and apprehend Maduro.
