Thousands Protest Trump’s Remarks on NATO Troops, Pay Tribute to Fallen Danish Soldiers

Copenhagen (HRNW)- Thousands of people took part in a silent protest march in the Danish capital against US President Donald Trump’s statement that downplayed the role of non-US NATO troops in the Afghanistan war. The march, organized by the Danish Veterans Association, saw participation from 8,000 to 10,000 citizens, including former military personnel, civilians, and people from other European countries.

The protest began at the historic Kastellet fortress, where a short ceremony was held in memory of soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan, before marching silently to the US embassy. The event, named “NoWords,” reflected the deep emotions felt over the remarks. Forty-four Danish flags were placed outside the embassy to honor the 44 soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

Vice President of the Veterans Association, Soren Knudsen, said the statement was an insult not only to Danish soldiers but also to the shared values for which both countries had sacrificed. Despite the cold weather, citizens turned out in large numbers to show solidarity and respect for their military personnel.
