Sydney Mid-Air Collision During Aerobatics Exercise Leaves One Dead

Sydney (HRNW)– Two small aircraft collided mid-air near the Napier Field Airfield in southwest Sydney, resulting in the death of one pilot and injuries to another. The incident occurred as both planes were returning from an aerobatics training exercise.

Authorities confirmed that the body of the deceased pilot was recovered from the wreckage, while the second aircraft managed a safe landing and its pilot remained unharmed. Local residents have been restricted from approaching the crash site as emergency teams complete their work.

According to initial details, both pilots were part of the Freedom Formation Display Team, and the accident happened during a coordinated exercise involving two additional aircraft. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has begun a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
