Strong Earthquake Strikes Near Talawit Islands, Panic in Jakarta and Nearby Areas

Jakarta (HRNW) – A strong earthquake measuring between 6.8 and 7.1 on the Richter scale was recorded near the Indonesian island of Talawit, triggering panic and fear among residents in Jakarta and surrounding areas.

According to foreign media, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the earthquake struck the coastal area of the Talawit Islands at a depth of 77 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Seismological Center assessed the quake’s magnitude at 7.1, with a depth of 17 kilometers, and confirmed that there was no threat of a tsunami following the tremor.

Media reports said that the earthquake’s tremors were felt in nearby regions, prompting people to rush out of their homes and buildings in fear. So far, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received.

Authorities stated that the situation is being closely monitored and the public has been advised to remain calm.
