SRI LANKA UN Exposes Decades of Systemic Sexual Violence

Colombo (HRNW)- A harrowing report released today by the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) reveals that sexual violence in Sri Lanka remains “deliberate, widespread, and systemic.” Despite the civil war ending in 2009, the report documents cases as recent as 2024, involving state security forces. Amnesty International has called this a “clarion call” for the new government to end the legacy of impunity that has left thousands of survivors without justice.
