Slovak National Security Advisor Miroslav Lajčák Resigns Amid Epstein Scandal, Denies Wrongdoing

Prague (HRNW)- Slovak National Security Advisor Miroslav Lajčák has resigned from his post amid the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, though he denied any wrongdoing. According to Reuters, Lajčák stepped down after new files related to the Epstein case emerged, including emails discussing girls.

In a statement, he condemned Epstein’s crimes and clarified that the email exchanges were general and informal, unrelated to any official duties. Lajčák emphasized that his resignation was intended to prevent the situation from politically affecting Prime Minister Robert Fico, stating, “I am not resigning due to any criminal or immoral actions, but to shield the Prime Minister from undue political pressure.”

Prime Minister Fico confirmed on social media that he had accepted the resignation, praising Lajčák’s extensive experience in diplomacy and foreign policy. It should be noted that the US Department of Justice recently released millions of documents related to the Epstein case, including emails from October 2018 when Lajčák was Slovakia’s foreign minister.

Miroslav Lajčák is a seasoned Slovak diplomat, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and served as President of the UN General Assembly from September 2017 to September 2018.
