Karachi (HRNW) — Sindh’s Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced the upcoming release of a new film titled “Mera Lyari”, aimed at highlighting the true culture, peace, resilience, and talent of Lyari, one of Karachi’s most historic neighborhoods.

The announcement comes in response to the Indian film Dhurandhar, which, according to Sindh government officials, presents Lyari and Pakistan in a negative and misleading manner.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sharjeel Memon said:
“The Indian film Dhurandhar is yet another example of negative propaganda against Pakistan, particularly Lyari. Lyari is not violence; it is a symbol of culture, peace, talent, and courage. Mera Lyari will be released next month and will present Lyari’s real identity — one of peace, prosperity, and pride.”
According to the minister, the film’s core objective is to portray Lyari as a center of culture, harmony, and resilience, while offering a strong and positive counter-narrative to the portrayal shown in Dhurandhar.
Cultural experts and human rights advocates have long emphasized the importance of accurate representation of marginalized communities, warning that distorted depictions can fuel prejudice, discrimination, and social exclusion.
