Sindh Information Commission Demands Transparency at Government Services Hospital

Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW)- In a move to enforce administrative transparency, Sindh Information Commission members Muhammad Saleem Khan and Noor Muhammad Dayo conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Sindh Government Services Hospital. The visit focused on auditing the hospital’s budget, staffing levels, record-keeping, and the availability of essential medicines across various wards, including the physiotherapy and dental OPDs.

The commissioners expressed strong dissatisfaction over the hospital’s defunct website and the absence of a designated Public Information Officer (PIO). Under the Sindh Transparency and Right to Information Act, all government departments are legally mandated to appoint an officer of Grade 16 or above to facilitate public data requests and proactively upload essential information online.

Information Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Khan emphasized that “access to information is a fundamental right of every Pakistani citizen,” asserting that public institutions are duty-bound to ensure transparency. Commissioner Noor Muhammad Dayo warned that withholding or misrepresenting information is a punishable offense. In response, the Medical Superintendent praised the commission’s oversight and committed to activating the hospital’s website and appointing a PIO within one month.
