Karachi (HRNW) — The Sindh High Court has issued a notice to the Customs Department in response to a petition challenging fines imposed on 12 imported commercial vehicles. The court has scheduled the matter for hearing on January 1.
According to Shahab Imam, Advocate for the petitioner company, the company did not refuse to pay any duties, but the payment of the New Energy Vehicles Levy was not reflected in the Customs Department’s computer system.
The vehicles were reportedly stopped at the port gate due to the non-payment of the levy. The petitioner’s lawyer also stated that the GD (Goods Declaration) decision dated November 2 was only finalized in December, which caused additional complications.
The company has already paid over Rs. 12.5 million as demurrage charges, and the advocate argued that there was no fault on the petitioner’s part in leaving the vehicles at the port, making the fines unjustified.
