Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh High Court has declared a petition filed by MQM MPA Aamir Siddiqui—regarding alleged irregularities in construction works in Jinnah Town—inadmissible, citing the availability of an alternative legal forum.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that tenders were issued after construction work and a criminal inquiry had already begun in Jinnah Town. He further alleged that on Jamshed Road, work orders were issued to preferred individuals without any tenders, and despite receiving Rs. 150 million from SSGC for road-cutting, no road repairs were carried out.
On behalf of the town administration, Advocate Salman Sabir stated that proper tenders were issued under the SPPRA rules, ensuring transparency in all construction work. He added that SSGC has yet to provide gas connections to houses and that an NOC will be issued after SSGC completes its work.
The court noted that records show the petitioner has already approached the Anti-Corruption Establishment, which is currently investigating the matter. The bench observed that Article 199 of the Constitution can only be invoked when no alternative and effective legal remedy exists.
The court concluded that the Anti-Corruption Establishment is a competent authority with a complete mechanism for handling such complaints, and since the petitioner’s request involves administrative directions, it falls within the jurisdiction of the Anti-Corruption department.
