Sindh High Court Accepts Petition Challenging DG SBCA Appointment

Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — The Sindh High Court has accepted a petition challenging the recent appointment of the Director General (DG) of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). The court issued notices to all parties and scheduled the next hearing for February 12.

The petitioner, Tariq Mansoor, through his lawyer, argued that this is not just a legal matter but a concern for the rights of 30 million citizens. The lawyer emphasized that the head of SBCA must be a civil engineer, town planner, or architect, and that appointing a bureaucrat or an engineer from another field as DG violates proper technical requirements.

The petition further stated that SBCA is responsible for issuing building licenses, demolishing unsafe structures, and regulating construction, making it essential that the agency be led by professionally qualified technical personnel. The petitioner requested that the notification of the current DG’s appointment be declared null and void.
