Serious Safety Concerns at Star Madina Trading Center in Karachi’s Napier Quarter

Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — Alarming safety gaps have been reported at Star Madina Trading Center, located at Plot No. 6/23 in Napier Quarter, sparking serious concern among citizens and traders. The building reportedly lacks an active fire alarm system and emergency exit gates — a dangerous shortfall that, if left unaddressed, could lead to another tragedy similar to the Gul Plaza incident.

According to sources quoted by Karachi Mehr, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has claimed that fire safety systems and emergency exits have been installed in the mall. However, on-ground inspection reveals that no visible safety measures have yet been implemented. While a preliminary assessment was completed, essential fire safety arrangements remain pending, and the absence of emergency gates continues to alarm both visitors and shop owners.

Citizens and traders have urged immediate government intervention to ensure the protection of lives and property. Sources have appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah, Commissioner Karachi, Deputy Commissioner South, and the Director General of SBCA to take urgent notice of the situation and implement effective safety measures before another disaster occurs.

Fire department officials have also issued warnings, stating that without swift action, the building could turn into a disaster zone at any moment.

Public and commercial circles are demanding that the safety loopholes be addressed immediately and that the SBCA’s claims translate into concrete action, ensuring that a tragedy like Gul Plaza is never repeated.
