Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW)- Senior investigative journalist Aslam Shah has been arrested by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following a complaint lodged by Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation officer Tabish Raza Hasnain. A local judge placed the journalist in judicial custody.
According to details, the case was registered under the PECA Act after a tip-off from the Water Board officer. Aslam Shah was taken into custody from the Ninth Mile Carsaz Water Board office (B Block) on Tuesday evening.
Critics have pointed out that the complaint did not follow the procedures mandated under the Journalist Protection Bill, and the journalist was not served notice prior to the action. Furthermore, Tabish Raza Hasnain neither informed nor obtained approval from his Managing Director before initiating the complaint.
It has been reported that Tabish Raza Hasnain has faced multiple inquiries in the past and had recently returned from detention under a sensitive agency. He is scheduled to retire later this month, after which the Water Board has reassigned his official vehicle to Superintendent Engineer Anwar Memon of the Lyari Division.
