KARACHI (HRNW): Following the directives of the Provincial Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has launched a rigorous fire safety inspection campaign across residential and commercial buildings in Karachi. In the initial phase, fire safety measures were reviewed in 35 major buildings across the city.
The Director General of SBCA stated that these inspections aim to verify the functionality of firefighting and emergency response systems. Corrective notices are being issued to buildings found with safety deficiencies. The DG SBCA warned that any building failing to install firefighting equipment or complete safety measures within the stipulated timeframe will be sealed.
Director Muzammil Hussain Halepoto added that fire safety notices are being issued to the 266 buildings identified in the KMC survey, along with other high-rise structures. He emphasized that ensuring fire safety is the collective responsibility of builders, building owners, and unions. As the regulatory authority, SBCA is collaborating with KMC and Civil Defense to make safety measures more effective for the protection of citizens’ lives and property.

-
Emergency Lighting: Battery-backed lighting in corridors and stairwells to guide occupants during power outages.
-
Clear Signage: Fluorescent “EXIT” signs and floor maps indicating emergency routes.
-
